Australia’s top five scenic road trips, according to actual travellers

Got camper, will go road tripping!

Australia is known for its vast coastal panorama, vibrant interior landscapes and lush tropical rain forests, and what better way to really experience the country’s stunning backdrops than on a self-drive motorhome holiday, roaming free on the open road.

A motorhome holiday offers the chance to break free from a fixed itinerary, scheduled flight times and pre-booked hotel dates and indulge in the luxury of doing things at your own pace. From waking up with a new view each morning to pulling over to get that all-important sunset snap or even spontaneously staying overnight in the grounds of a working vineyard, going by camper gives travelers more room for adventure and exploration.

Australasia’s leading motorhome companies Britz and Maui have teamed up to share their top five scenic road trip journeys in Australia including their favourite on-route photo spots:

Route one: The Great Barrier Reef – Brisbane to Cairns

This itinerary takes in some of the most unforgettable natural sites in the world travelling from the energetic city of Brisbane along the Sunshine Coast to the holiday shores of the Whitsunday Islands and on to the balmy climes of the tropical north and the Great Barrier Reef, before finishing off in Cairns.

Route two: Nature’s Way – Darwin to Darwin

The Nature’s Way route is perfect for self-drivers who want a trip steeped in nature, Aboriginal culture and off-the-beaten-track outback exploration. The route travels through the Northern Territory’s stunning and lush northern tropics including World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park and Nitmuluk National Park. Those seeking a real outdoors adventure can canoe down the Katherine River, swim in waterfalls at Litchfield and discover the world’s largest collection of Aboriginal rock art at Kakadu National Park.
