Ever thought about a campervan trip around Australia? If not, why not? Make sure you park it at these fab Down Under places.

Although Australia is a vast country, travelling around parts of it by campervan is a great and flexible way to take in lots of the sights. You may wish to fly from one side to the other if you wish to visit several regions during your trip as driving will take several days (thought that could be part of the fun)!

Here the DUInsure team compile their top five places to visit in Australia.

Cairns

Cairns should definitely be top of your places to visit in Australia, as it’s unofficially known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef truly is a natural wonder of the world and completely lives up the hype, in fact no visit to Australia is really complete without seeing some of the amazing corals and marine life that lives there.

While you’re in Queensland, it’s also worth a trip down the coast from Cairns to the Whitsunday Islands for some Whitsundays sailing adventures. The Whitsunday Islands are home to amazing beaches and secluded bays just begging to be explored by boat. Hamilton Island has the most options for accommodation and activities if you want to stay a little longer.

Sydney

Considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Sydney really is one of the top Australian attractions. Many visitors to the country will fly here first anyway so it’s worth spending a few days exploring the city to see sights such as the Sydney Opera House, walk across the Harbour Bridge and head to the famous Bondi Beach for a spot of surfing and sunbathing.

Great Ocean Road

We can’t mention a campervan road trip without telling you about the world-famous Great Ocean Road in the Victoria region. The whole road is about 150 miles long and will gift you with some breath-taking views, particularly if you have the time to enjoy it in your own transport rather than doing a 1-day coach trip. It’s even better if you can take the time to stop off in some of the places along the route such as Port Campbell National Park which is home to incredible Twelve Apostles, tall limestone pillars standing guard out to sea.

Melbourne

If you’re driving the Great Ocean Road, you’ll likely either start or end in Melbourne and we recommend staying there awhile. It’s ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world, home to an excellent food scene, vibrant festivals, plenty of sport and just has a great vibe to experience. Melbourne has an excellent tram system, including Tram route 96 which gives you the perfect tour of some of the city’s icons – taking you from the north of the city through its heart and down to St Kilda which is right on the beach in the south of the city.

Uluru

Known as the ‘spiritual heart’ of Australia, Uluru in the Red Centre of Australia is another destination for your Australian bucket list. The iconic red rock is a great place to see some amazing sunrises and sunsets, you can see it from the back of a camel or take a helicopter flight over the rock. Close to Uluru, is Kata Tjuta which is a group of ancient red rock formations that are another incredible sight, you can also learn about the significance of this World Heritage Area in the Aboriginal culture.

Remember before your travels to ensure you have the correct travel insurance to cover all activities and if you hire a vehicle, motor insurance to protect you should the worst happen.
