Body found in Blue Mountains could be missing man Gary Tweddle

THERE has been a reported sighting of a body in bushland in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, suspected to be that of missing British-born Australian man Gary Tweddle.

The sighting was made by an ambulance service helicopter on a training flight over the Blue Mountains on Monday afternoon. Police have headed into the area to investigate the report.

Gary Tweddle, 23, has been missing for more than six weeks. He disappeared after a night of drinking at the Fairmont Resort in Leura following a work conference.

He spent 17 minutes on the phone to colleagues to say he was lost in the bush before his phone died.

An extensive search of the Blue Mountains followed, but Mr Tweddle could not be located.

Police have declared his disappearance as a suspected, accidental death in a report filed with the coroner last week.

A police spokeswoman said the area where the body was thought to have been seen is inaccessible by foot.
