How do we survive the everyday and extreme situations? And what if you have to deal with the unexpected, like a tornado? I’ve compiled a list of some different techniques to get you started, these range from the everyday, like how to  survive a game of slots, to the downright bazaar, like a zombie apocalypse, but one thing is for sure after you’ve read this piece, nothing will phase you.

How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse

A zombie apocalypse is improbable, but we’ve all seen the walking dead on Netflix, and feel it’s best to come prepared in case the worst should happen.

When you’re out and about in a new place, make sure to always have a paper map handy. It seems pointless in these days of Google maps, but a paper map in a Zombie apocalypse still works when the signal goes down and can double up as a makeshift hat if it’s raining.

Remember, on a commute; a lot can happen in just 30 minutes – especially if your plans change at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e., getting bitten). Why take chances when there are easy solutions available? The Boy Scout motto sums up our sentiment well: Be prepared.

Look upon the Zombies as business bullies, trying to steal your ideas by eating your brain. If you let these zombies steal your ideas and thoughts so quickly, it’ll be easy for them to take over and leave you standing on the curb with your paper hat in hand.

You need a strong backbone of an independent person who knows how to stand up against adversity when necessary because being careful with valuable resources like time, money, and your mental health is essential.

Don’t back down either-even if someone does something intimidating because that would give them more power than they already have. Stand tall and back yourself. The more you do that, the easier it gets.

Learn how to say no instead: vocalising one’s desires to allow another individual access becomes easier after practise, and practise makes perfect.

How to Survive a Tornado

Tornadoes usually happen in more exotic parts of the world than the UK; the last tornado of any note took the roof off a house in Barking, East London, earlier this year, proving freak storms and tornadoes can happen anywhere.

Residents of Barking were shocked when their local tornadoes went from being a tiny little twister to an epic storm that damaged houses and cars. What practical things should you do to make sure you’re safe in the event of a freak turn of events?

Don’t live in east London or on the Kent coast – these are the UK’s version of Tornado Alley.

It sounds obvious, but it should be said: just because you can see a storm coming from miles away doesn’t mean it’s not going to hit where you live!

We would recommend moving as far away from any areas prone to tornadoes.

If you can’t move then, you can always prepare. Calling on those toggle wearing harbingers of practical advice again – the scouts. We refer to the tornado badge (there isn’t one but go with it)

When a tornado approaches, the most important thing to remember is that falling debris can cause serious injury. The safest place during tornado storms is usually in a basement or a room with no windows and preferably without any light sources like fluorescent lamps, which will blind you if they burst.

If you don’t have a safe room, try sheltering under something sturdy such as heavy furniture where it’s hard for winds or lightning strikes to break on top of you – though this may not be an option if you’re out and about in the high street.

The good news is that such rare events make great TikTok footage, so not all is lost!

How to Survive Bad Days

Haven’t we all had those times when we wake up and think to ourselves, “What the heck?” Then, as time passes, things get progressively worse. This section is for individuals who are aware that lousy things happen from time to time. It’s not always your fault, or anyone else’s; bad things happen to decent people all the time, and there’s nothing to be done but suck it up.

If you’re having a terrible day or a lousy week, you know what we mean. Chin, up there is some good news, the worst day of your life will teach you some valuable life lessons, and here’s how to get the benefit:

Identify the problem – take the time out of your day-ruining thoughts for one moment! Identify what emotions are behind those statements. Is anger towards a client/partner/boy scout building up inside? Or disappointment in yourself because plans didn’t work as expected today?”

Identifying how we feel when things aren’t going well can help keep negative feelings from taking over completely.

Accept that we can’t control everything – before we judge our failures, look at them from all angles and ask ourselves what could have been better? We can’t change fate, so make sure your next move will be more successful than the last one, learn from your mistakes.

A good life has its price. It requires a certain level of risk to achieve what we want in the world; this includes success and personal happiness – persevere and see where that takes you.
