When it comes to a celebration, there are fewer on God’s green earth that can put on a party like those from Down Under.

In terms of a party, however, there are fewer bigger than Germany’s colossal Oktoberfest. The traditional celebration of all-things German – mostly beer, sausages and Oktoberfest Costumes – has attracted the attention of the entire global community for centuries. So if you are considering celebrating the most awesome of Bavarian celebrations in Oz – and are currently looking for – the following may convince you that you are making the right decision.

What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is the premier folk festival in the world. The festival lasts over 16 days, and attracts more than six million people on part of its festivities. The roots of Oktoberfest stretch back to October 1810, when Prince Ludwig of Bavaria put on a show for the ages in Munich, when he invited the people to help him celebrate his marriage to Princess Therese.

Almost two hundred years later, visitors from across the globe still descend on Theresienwiese in Munich.  A true celebration of the rich and beautiful German tradition, you can immerse yourself in this unique celebration in cities all over Australia.

Oktoberfest in Brisbane

Win terms of size, Oktoberfest Brisbane has become the largest German Festival Down Under. Over 40,000 people are set to head to Brisbane in order to get an authentic taste of a German party.

German-Australian’s Kim and Boris Zoulek transform the Brisbane Showgrounds into Bavaria, providing world-class food and beer you would only expect to find in the German city. With a Bavarian Oktoberfest Band and a Munich Biergarten ready to be aborbed, as well as an impressive Marktplatz, and a KinderZone for the little ones, there is something for everyone.

Yodellers, German food, awesome beer, maidens clad in Lederhosen, singers, dancers and pretty much every other aspect of Oktoberfest can be experienced in Brisbane. The best part is that the celebrations are stretched over two weeks, giving everyone the opportunity to savour the culinary grace, laughter and unique festivities which is pretty much accessible to one and all keen to immerse themselves in the Germanic charms.

In other parts of Australia

Oktoberfest is celebrated all over Australia, with some pretty big showings in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. With Oktoberfest in the Gardens now heading into its eight year in 2018, the demand for all-things German has never been greater.

Melbourne’s biggest feature in that the city has the biggest beer hall in Australian history, with 2017’s offering big enough to hold 5,000 jolly drinkers and celebrants. There is a plethora of acts, performances and other forms of entertainment to keep everyone happy. Brass bands, and contemporary German performers allow those in the party mood to get a true sense of how things go down in Bavaria.

More than anything, you can get your hands on some of those frosty imported beers, which will surely inspire a trip or two to the Motherland at some point!
