Robert Durst: Convicted US Murderer Dies In Prison

Robert Durst, a convicted murderer has died in a prison hospital after contracting the coronavirus. He contracted the virus after being sentenced to life in prison. 

Robert Durst was a suspect in three murders. His wife, his best friend, and another man in his neighborhood. He was only found guilty many years after the crimes. 

Robert Durst Convicted of Murder

On October 14th, Robert Durst was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the death of Susan Berman. He had been long suspected to be involved in the disappearance of his wife whose body was never found. Upon request by her family, Kathie was declared legally dead in 2017. 

Now, Susan Berman was alleged to be Durst’s best friend was killed the day before police decided to reopen the case in his wife’s murder. Susan was to be questioned about her disappearance. She was also alleged to have given Durst an alibi in the disappearance of his wife. Prosecutors argued that he killed her because she was going to reveal the truth to investigators. 

Susan Berman was murdered almost two decades ago and Robert Durst was only found guilty of her murder in October 2021. 

Durst Convicted Two Decades After Murdering Susan Berman

In the murder of one of his neighbors in Texas, Mr. Black had allegedly found out the identity of Robert Durst during the time he was in trouble with the law. This is at the time investigators reopened the case of Kathie Durst’s disappearance. Durst on the other hand was living under the radar dressed as a woman to avoid authorities. 

Lied Under Oath

At this time, Mr. Black had recognized who he was. Robert found himself in a pickle and acted on his fear of being caught out. In court, Robert Durst denied having killed the Texan resident and said he shot the man in self-defense. He argued that the man pulled a gun on him first and shot himself by accident during their altercation. 

In Roberts three week testimony, he denied having killed his wife Kathie Durst, Susan Berman, and Mr. Black. He further relayed that even if he did kill them he would lie out of the situation. Additionally, he added that he had lied under oath before to get out of trouble with the law.
