Mark McGowan has had tongues wagging after he shared that restrictions won’t be necessary during the cold season. Thus far, epidemiologists agree with him.

WA won’t be facing restrictions by Mark McGowan

Right now, WA is facing its worst number of Covid infections since the start of the pandemic. Honestly speaking, the pandemic can be wiped out quickly with no restrictions. For Aussies this will mean going back to square one.

At the moment, hospitals have already faced a large number of patients coming daily. As the winter season approaches, hospitals are expected to be overwhelmed with infections.

So far, Mark McGowan has not implemented more restrictions as he feels WA should face the peak of Covid sooner rather than later. Restrictions in effect will prohibit this from happening.

Vaccination and infection rates

According to ABC News, professor Bennet from Deakin University agrees that restrictions should not be implemented. Even though multiple government officials have urged this to be the case.

“Trying to stop [COVID] completely is a false promise. All we can do is maybe slow it down,”

Catherine Bennet

Currently, those who have been vaccinated will be protected but the efficacy of the vaccine could wear out anytime soon. This comes as many have gotten the third dose last year.

Now being vaccinated protects you from the virus, it does not prevent you from getting it. So, Australians are still urged to practice their personal hygiene such as hand sanitizer and wearing masks.

During the heat of the pandemic, around 3 500 health workers were not present for work due to the high infection rate in Western Australia.

This time around, Aussies might experience the worst of the pandemic during the flu season while Covid is still around. Hopefully, the pandemic will be something of the past soon
