Joan Didion Starting Writing As Early As Five-Years-Old
In her younger days, Didion found a love for writing and started as young as five years old all the while publishing her first piece.
When she started University, she pursued her studies in English and used one of her writing pieces to enter a competition. It is no surprise that she won first place for this piece and scored a job at Vogue as a research assistant.
Working At Vogue In Her Early Days
Didion has since worked her way up within the company into the title of Editor but had since developed a longing for her home California.
In one of her works she wrote about this longing for a certain nostalgia but later revealed that she simply created a utopia of her own and not a California that actually existed.
At one point in her career. Joan Didion encouraged young graduates to throw themselves into the mess.
“Live in the mess. Throw yourself into the convulsions of this world.”Joan Didion
Joan was a writer all her whole life and poured her heart into everything she wrote, such as Blue nights in where she expressed all the feelings associated with her daughter’s death who has passed on due to a pancreatic illness.
Before the death of her daughter, Joan Didion had suffered the tragic loss of her husband who had a heart attack at the dinner table while the family was dealing with the severe illness of their daughter.
