Heads buried in sand for G20 climate protest at Bondi

Australian’s buried their heads in the sand at Bondi Beach to highlight the government’s attitude towards climate change.

The protest, organised by 350.org on Thursday, aimed to mock what the group says is Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s refusal to include climate change on the agenda at the G20 summit being held in Brisbane.

Event organiser, Eden Tehan, said in a statement: ““It’s pretty clear that on climate change, Tony Abbott’s head is well and truly buried in the sand. To appropriately salute the sheer mindlessness of Australia’s Prime Minister as world leaders gather for the G20 in Brisbane, hundreds of people did something extraordinary today. Absurd? Inconceivable? A bit crazy? Yes, but that’s exactly what Tony Abbott is being when ignoring the biggest issue of our time: climate change.”

The Brisbane G20 summit is due to commence on Saturday.
