However, nowadays those walls have shifted into neutral colours such as white, grey and beige whereas the need for decoration has increased.

Nevertheless, not everyone can afford expensive and luxurious art from preppy art galleries, but over time and in line with the growth of e-commerce, the poster market has exploded.

Desenio and other webstores have created a sort of online art gallery where the prices vary, in order to fit all people from different society classes. The posters come in all kinds of sizes, prints and various ranges of colours.

Thousands of different motifs at a low cost

The fact that an online poster store can offer different motifs in a much larger scale than an ordinary art gallery, has also been a key factor in the huge success for the poster market.

At different websites there are thousands of motifs to choose among and therefor these companies have the ability to reach a broader customer base.

Many businesses within the poster field are selling their products directly to the customer, without involving any retailers and thereby the prices can remain low.

Besides from advantageous prices, not using a distributor also increases the profitability for the companies that have great opportunities to expand internationally by operating online.

Following the trends

Employees and creators within the poster market are working at a pace which allows them to create up to 150 different motifs a month. The design is not something randomly created by the taste of different artists, instead the new motifs are made based on analysed data.

Since these companies have always belonged to the e-commerce segment, they have a large amount of data when it comes to patterns of customer behaviour.

The results of the analyses and keeping up with the latest trends when it comes to colours and genres are the things that form the basis of the new motifs.

Differences in taste depending on nationality

The creators also have to be aware and alert about the variety of preferences in different countries when making new posters.

It can differ quite a lot and in Britain for example most customers prefer strong colours, whereas in Nordic countries people like neutral colours such as grey or beige. In France on the other hand, green posters with botanical patterns are trending.

Good shipping possibilities and short lead times are key factors

Considering that posters are made of paper and therefor come in a lightweight package they are both cheap and easy to ship worldwide.

Also, the lead time in the process of making the product is very short in comparison to other products that require a much more complicated manufacturing. That helps the businesses to continuously being able to keep up with the tendencies among the customers.
