You’ve probably been mispronouncing these city and country names your whole life

Call yourself a traveller? But you've been saying these place names wrong the whole damn time!

Let’s face it, you can spot a tourist miles away with their fanny packs, cameras and comfortable ‘travel’ shoes. You’ve been there, you’ve seen it and yes, you have done it yourself.

There’s one more way to spot a tourist though. Listen to the way they pronounce the city or country’s name they’re exploring.

Despite their (and our) best efforts, mispronunciations occur, especially when travelling through a foreign country where you don’t know the language or the spelling.

That’s all about to change thanks to Thrillophilia, who set out to find the most tricky city and country names, and put an end to their mispronunciations once and for all.

Now tourists can study up on these if they are visiting some of these places. Some might even surprise you.

OK, so obviously these are targeted at the worst offenders, Americans (hey, we honestly love you guys, but c’mon… Mahs-cow?) and it’s great to see that pronunciation of Melbourne getting sorted out right off the bat, but we Aussies aren’t that much better.
