British comedian cycles through Australia. Twice.

This unique three-part, one-man travel show,  will air on BBC1 and follows British actor-comedian John Bishop as he retraces his steps 22 years ago when as a 25-year old he ventured through Australia on bicycle.

The show, John Bishop’s Australia, sees the star and fitness fanatic attempting the 2400 km trip from Sydney to Queensland as he had done for the first time in 1992. Along the way he is re-united with Australians he met 22 years ago.

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: “It’s great to have John Bishop, one of the country’s best-loved comedians, presenting a wonderfully colourful travelogue on BBC One.”

This epic journey starts in Sydney from where Bishop will cycle as far as Northern Queensland.  As he travels we meet the Australians he encounters along the way.  They share their fascinating stories with the country’s awe-inspiring natural beauty as the backdrop.

Speaking about his return to Australia and the series, John said that Australia has changed since his trip 22 years ago and he was interested to find out what it means to be an Australian in 2014.  “Retracing the steps of a journey which holds such amazing memories has been an incredible experience and a real privilege.  I met some amazing people the first time round and I’m delighted to say I did it again, it’s the people and their stories that make Australia great. The scenery isn’t bad either.”
