Australia’s National Film and Sound archive have released an unedited version of an interview that John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Star gave to a Binny Lum presenter at Melbourne Radio at the time.

The interview was a pre-runner promotional effort for their Australian tour in June 1964, 50 years ago this week.

Included on the sound clip is the 3 of the Beatles spontaneously bursting into song and having fun with Australians and the ‘Australian way’.

With edited versions of the interview having been included on CDs, the full interview has never been heard.

The interview also includes an apology for the missing Beatle. Paul McCartney, and a discussion on the then upcoming Australian tour.

Tour performances included stops  in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne followed by a tour of New Zealand and a quick return to Australia with a performance in Brisbane.
