Security cameras, changing the way you protect your property

IN the past, when security camera surveillance was a new idea, and a less affordable commodity, security cameras were usually only found in highly probable areas. Banks and other public businesses would use camera surveillance to protect from theft or other crime, while home video security was only an option for the wealthy and highly elite home owners. Even then, home security recording devices were typically used at front entry doors or driveways. With the increasing affordability of both the indoor security camera and the outdoor surveillance camera, you may be surprised at these five places where camera surveillance is becoming more common.

1. Inside the Home

While outdoor camera surveillance has been common since security camera inception, many people are now choosing to install cameras inside of their house as well. This indoor security method can be useful for a number of situations, including:

  • Monitoring a babysitter
  • Keeping a watchful eye on a house cleaning crew
  • Watching over other service people who enter your home

Keeping your family safe may mean more than just monitoring who is around your home, but who is in your home. Make sure you know the laws and regulations surrounding indoor security camera surveillance before filming anyone without their knowledge or consent.

2. Workplace Offices and Common Areas

While simply monitoring incoming and outgoing visitors at a workplace or business has been adequate in the past, many businesses are now implementing surveillance in offices and employee common areas. With employee dishonesty being more common-place, many employers now choose to install security cameras to prevent both crime from customers, and theft or dishonesty by employees.

3. Construction Sites

In continuation the category of more commonly found office video surveillance, many construction companies have also chosen to install outdoor video cameras to monitor both workers and activity on the construction site. While some projects are large enough to require security on the site premises, other companies cannot afford such security measures. Video surveillance has become more affordable and more concealable in recent years, allowing the construction industry a more cost effective way to prevent damages and theft on a job site.

4. Supply Rooms and Warehouses

If you run a business where there are a lot of supplies and products stored for a long period of time, you may worry about your employees taking advantage of their access to these facilities. While some use of supply rooms for work purposes are fully justified, excessive or personal use may be cutting into your company budget. To solve this common problem, many businesses have opted to install video cameras in these areas of the workplace to reduce employee dishonesty and help locate the individuals responsible for missing goods.

5. Around Dumpsters and Facility Walls

While it may sound absurd, security cameras have become a common addition in back alley-ways, around dumpster, and attached to facility walls. To prevent and pin-point crimes around a facility, many building owners are now adding these stealthy recording devices to find those responsible for crimes like vandalism, drug-dealing, and other illegal procedures that may be taking place on-site. With the ease of use and affordability of these recording devices, your building may also benefit from one of these now common surveillance tools.
