Can you believe summer is around the corner? Would it be nice to pause the clock for a while and to enjoy the mild weather while prepping for the scorching season?

Sounds good, doesn’t it?

The reality is that you need to prepare to welcome Australian summer to your home by doing some easy and simple hacks that can help avoid the sweltering heat.

Ready?

Let’s get the ball rolling!

Declutter!

Get organised for summer by decluttering. Put away the things that you won’t be needing for the coming season.

It also makes sense to declutter before the summer starts to maximise space, to prevent unnecessary purchases and revitalise your home.

Decluttering is refreshing as it improves your mood. And with less clutter, you achieve proper ventilation, and you will improve the air quality in your home.

Shield windows exposed directly to sunlight.

So, you know which part of your home receives more sunlight? Shield that window to prevent heat build-up.

Pull down the blinds or close the curtains to reduce the heat. If you’re leaving for the day, make sure to close the windows.

You can also use window tinting to deflect sunlight. It is similar to the way it is used for cars to keep them cool while parked outside – the same principle goes with your home.

It is an easy, cost-effective process that makes a real difference!

Bring the outdoors in!

With the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, some of you may not feel able to go outside to enjoy nature.

So, bringing your outdoor plants in is an excellent idea. It does not only beautify your home and bring good benefits to your health but also keep the entire house feeling cool and refreshed.

Plants are effective in decreasing house temperature during the summer. It loses water during transpiration which cools down the surroundings of the plants, leaving your home refreshed and purified.

Here some of the best plants that can keep your home cool during the summer season:

  • Aloe vera
  • Ficus tree
  • Fern
  • Snake plant
  • Areca palm tree

Prep the outdoor living space.

Since it’s summer, you might be spending some time on the deck or patio of your home to relax while enjoying the beautiful weather.

Clean the outdoor patio while the weather is still mild. Fill the space with furniture and plants to improve its ambience.

Set up a table and dining chairs. Also, accessorise the outdoor sofa with cushions and pillows to achieve a cozy and stylish outdoor living space.

Create a “Get Ready for Summer Checklist”

The “Get Ready for Summer Checklist” is a vital chore when preparing your home for the coming season.

Check the things that you have not used during the winter. Make sure that everything is functional and will not break down throughout the summer.

Here are the things that you need to check:

  • Air conditioning unit (Daikin)
  • Ventilation system
  • Outdoor grills
  • Lawn equipment
  • Water tank

Stock up!

Be summer ready! Fill your cabinet with essentials such as medicine, batteries, cleaning supplies, sunblock, food and more.

Make sure the fridge is full of refreshing snacks and beverages to keep your family healthy and hydrated.

Probably you’ll be inviting friends over for lunches and dinner, so it is also essential to stock up on paper plates, paper towels, plastic cutlery and some beers or cocktails.

Conclusion

That’s it! I hope these simple hacks can make you and your home summer-ready.

And if you need help in preparing your home for summer in terms of air conditioning installation, let ABC Air help you!

Enjoy summer and stay hydrated!
