Michael Gunner will no longer be holding the position of NT Chief Minister. This comes after the birth of his second child.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner can no longer give 100 percent

For Michael, his time has come to step down from his position and let someone else take over. At this point, the father of two is planning on spending much more time with his family.

“I can no longer keep looking Territorians in the eye and say ‘I can keep giving 100 percent every day, and if I can’t do that I shouldn’t be in the chair.”

Since Michael Gunner cannot give the people 100 percent, the best decision for him is to let someone else take the reigns. Essentially giving the people what they need.

Protecting health and spending time with family

Among the decision to resign includes the fact that Michael Gunner has had previous health issues. He suffered a heart attack in 2020 and has been affected when he had the coronavirus.

“I don’t need a second near-death experience to know life is unpredictable and can be cut short”.

While being a parent and his health played an important role in his decision. Michael acknowledged that he is not getting any younger. He added that would like to spend as much time with his family as he can.

According to The Guardian, Nicole Manison will take on the role of an acting chief minister. Simultaneously, another labor leader is to be announced on Friday.
