5 Things you’ll love about a career in the construction industry

The construction industry is booming, largely due to the mining sector which has a continuing need for experienced workers. Other areas of the construction industry have felt the pinch as tradespeople have moved away to the mines, lured by the high wages.

THE construction industry is constantly progressing as more and more new and innovative equipment becomes available. Companies like Hyundai Construction Equipment are continuing to offer cutting edge technology to the construction industry. New designs and construction techniques also help propel the industry forward.

High demand industry

Construction workers are in demand and as there will always be a need for more buildings, it looks like staying that way. The average age of construction workers is 47, which means there is a real need for young people to enter the field.

Career opportunities

There are many career opportunities within the construction industry and also plenty of room for personal advancement and promotion. There are opportunities in the mining sector as well as the chance to travel overseas on building projects. As one of the major industries in Australia, a career in the construction industry has lots of advantages and opportunities.

Get paid as you learn

The great thing about starting a career in the construction industry is that you get paid as you learn. Whether you start as an apprentice or in an entry level position, like a labourer or shovel hand, you will be paid for your efforts as you learn on the job. As you develop your skills more you will be paid more and over time you will earn your way into increased responsibility and job satisfaction. Compared to studying, which will cost you money, learning on the jobs has obvious advantages.

Job security

In today’s uncertain financial climate, job security is a very big deal. The construction industry offers steady work and a high level of job security as well as excellent wages. The higher up the career ladder you climb, the higher the wages and the better the job security. For instance, good project managers are hard to find. To get someone who can oversee a job and ensure that all the regulations are correctly adhered to, is of great value to a company and they are prepared to pay well for it. If you get into the construction industry and work hard and have an attitude to learn and advance yourself, you should be rewarded with a high level of job security.

Jobs almost everywhere

One of the major benefits of a career in the construction industry is that you can work almost anywhere in the world, at least wherever buildings are being built. If you are young and in good health and have a desire to travel, either around Australia or abroad, then choosing a career in the construction industry is a really smart choice. Having a trade that allows you to travel is a great asset. Construction workers enjoy being part of a team and get a real sense of job satisfaction out of completing buildings and other community projects.
