Genia boost for Barbarians ahead of Argentina clash

Well, we’ve got one so far in Will Genia, ahead of 1 December’s Killik Cup showdown for the famed Barbarians against Argentina at Twickenham in London.

Genia will be teaming up with South African trio Eben Etzebeth, Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira and Handre Pollard alongside the Springbok Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, who was named as the Barbarians coach on Wednesday. More big names are anticipated later this month – and a number of Aussie players will be among the collective.

Tickets are already on sale – and priced as low as £20* for adults and £15* for children (*booking fees apply). Visit www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call the ticket hotline on 0844 844 0444.

For Genia, this fixture will present a chance to make amends as he was part of the Wallabies outfit that narrowly lost to Los Pumas in the Rugby Championship last week.

Although he’ll be playing in the famous black and white shirt of the Baa-baas this time round, Genia will no doubt play with the same passion and determination fans around the world have come to expect from a man of such talent.

Genia is one of the leading scrumhalves in world rugby, having amassed over 90 caps, and will be looking to provide quick ball to the backline. He’s pretty speedy – and quick to find and take the gap, too. How Argentina plan to combat this aspect of his gameplan is of particular intrigue.

He has played for the victorious Barbarians sides twice, in 2009 against the All Blacks and 2010 against South Africa.  Maybe he is their lucky player and will make it three from three?

Twickenham never disappoints as a venue and Barbarian matches associated with it… but they have set the bar pretty high even for themselves – they are returning to Twickenham after the record-breaking 63-45 win and 15-try thriller over England earlier this year in May.

The team will no doubt be packed full of more superstars from around the globe and will light up the stadium with the brand of rugby expected at Barbarian matches, with sublime handling, big hits and end to-end action. You won’t be disappointed – another guaranteed action packed match day of world class rugby will be on offer.
