Prime Minister Julia Gillard has had another footwear fumble - tripping on a lawn in India and this time losing both her shoes.

PRIME Minister Julia Gillard has had another footwear fumble – tripping on a lawn in India and this time losing both her shoes.

Ms Gillard had just laid a wreath at a Gandhi memorial in downtown New Delhi and was walking towards reporters for a press conference when she tripped and fell.

She slammed into the ground and had to be helped to her feet but was unhurt.

“I’m fine,” she said.

“For men who get to wear flat shoes all day every day, if you wear a heel it can get embedded in soft grass and when you pull your foot out the shoes doesn’t come.

“And the rest of it is as you saw.”

When a reporter suggested she should wear boots, Ms Gillard said: “Right, because that wouldn’t cause any fashion critiques in Australia, would it?”

Ms Gillard has a history of losing her shoes, most notably as she was being whisked away from protesters at an Australia Day function in Canberra this year.
