Toombul Shopping center terminates all retail leases following floods

Toombul shopping center will no longer be running after the floods that have ensued in February. Recently, tenants were notified that the building will not be repaired.

Right now, many retail owners in the Toombul shopping center will no longer have the chance to open their stores back up after the floods had caused significant damage. 

Mirvac, who owns the Toombul Shopping center was urged to provide their tenants with certainly about having their places back in the mall. Yesterday, some shop owners confirmed that their lease has been terminated. 

“After taking into account the current and potential future impacts of flooding on the site, it is impractical and undesirable to reinstate the center to how it was prior to the flooding damage,” 

Bringing back Toombul shopping center ‘impractical’

Thus far, the shutdown of the shopping center is related to the expensive repairs that need to be done. Presently, the building is severely damaged, and fixing up everything right now would not make sense.

Given that the city faces floods on a regular basis, it would not be advisable to repair the building. That is, only if the building could be made waterproof for the future.

Currently, the Shopping center would be closed for at least ten weeks. After the floods took place back in February. According to ABC News, many shop owners at the Toombul shopping center had relied on coming back. 

“We are in talks with a few people in regards to new premises, but needed the confirmation from Toombul with what was going to happen before we decided on the future of our store.
