Tasmania internet connections were put to a halt after two cables were damaged. The two cables affected were the ones that connected Tasmania to the mainland of Australia. During a time of a heightened digital age, this is probably one of the worst things that could happen to Gen Z.
While the majority of the internet connections have been restored, some internet service providers are still down. This will lead to some individuals having access to the internet. Only two out of three cables were impacted by the internet outage.
Tasmania internet outage caused by construction workers
According to 7News, the cables were damaged by construction workers. This led to a state-wide shutdown from having an internet connection. The affected cables were located on the mainland in Tasmania with the other completely remote.
While cables or technology, in general, is subject to failure, the state does need to have more than three cables or even four that will remain running if the other fails. Tasmania has ruled this out so far.
Internet connection restored six hours later
The internet outage lasted as long as six hours. Crew members, however, did attend to the issue as soon as they could. This resulted in the internet outage for as long as six hours early on Tuesday.

Many residents in Tasmania have reported being unable to make phone calls or receive them. Businesses have also suffered as a consequence with some banks closing and markets only taking cash at their stores.
By 7 pm on Tuesday evening, the internet connection has been restored. With other networks still expected to be down. As reported by The Guardian, The outage had affected ADSL and NBN internet services. Additionally, free-to-air TV, radio stations, and mobile data services were also down.
