‘Silver Dragon’ tidal wave washes away vehicles and spectators [VIDEO]

The famous ‘Silver Dragon’ wave arrived just as expected. But what these spectators didn’t expect was to be inundated by its fury.

In the video above, the wave can be seen pounding through the harbour then careering over the embankment, taking out cars, scooters and a few spectators who had gathered to witness the phenomenon.

The tidal bore, known as the ‘Silver Dragon’, spectacularly surges down the Qiantang River in eastern China every autumn, attracting crowds of spectators and even thrill seeking surfers.

The tidal bore is caused when the rising tide rushes from the sea into the river as a wave. The Silver (or sometimes Black) Dragon, which tears through Hangzhou harbour, is the world’s largest tidal bore and can reach up to 9 meters high.
