Seventy-year-old former netball coach in court on sex charges

A 70-year-old former netball coach from Sydney’s south has been charged over the alleged sexual touching of three teenage girls.

In October this year, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad investigated the reports and last week arrested the man at Kogarah Police Station and then searched his home in the suburb of Beverly Hills.

In a statement released yesterday (Monday), NSW Police said officers had seized certain documents and the accused was charged with eight counts of intentionally sexually touching a child (aged between 10 and 16 years) and attempting to intentionally sexually touch a child (aged between 10 and 16 years).

Alleged offences happened at netball courts

Police say they will allege in court that the man sexually touched three teenage girls – then aged between 12 and 15 – at netball courts in Sydney’s south between March 2019 and September 2020.

He appeared at Sutherland Local Court, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Tuesday, 19 January next year.

According to the police statement, investigations are continuing.

Jury is discharged in swimming coach’s trial

Meanwhile, the Fraser Coast Chronicle reports that the jury in the trial of Kyle Daniels, the former swimming instructor from the Sydney suburb of Mosman accused of sexually abusing his young students, has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict on most of the charges faced by the young coach.

The jury had cleared Daniels of five charges, but declared a stalemate on the remaining 21 charges.

“Mr Daniels now faces a potential retrial over the remaining charges, which involve all nine girls,” the newspaper reported.
