Looking forward to Ladi6 at Homelanz

COUNTDOWN TO HOMELANZ: Hold on to your flat caps lady and gents, there’s just a week and a half to go until London’s Homelanz festival. We’re celebrating the fact with an awesome little interview with one of the stars of next Saturday’s Boston Manor Park Antipodean fest, Kiwi hip hop sensation Ladi6. Get on down!

How excited are you about Homelanz?
Super excited! Can’t wait to catch up with the Katchafire boys plus, we haven’t really done the UK that much so really looking forward to the whole thing.

Who are you most looking forward to supporting and watching at Homelanz?
Sneaky Sound System are always good but I’m really pumped to be catching up with Katchafire. We’ve been friends for a really long time and I haven’t seen them for over a year so just want to catch up with the bros and hang out. It’s gunna be cool.

How do the Antipodean expats respond to your overseas gigs?
The expats are really good, they’re always cranking. At every gig we’ve ever done in London, it’s been packed with cranking expats. It’s good for them too as it’s like a little chunk of home coming to visit them overseas. They’re always up for the party, it’s wicked.

How good is your life at the moment?
It’s pretty wicked man, we’re pretty fortunate and count ourselves lucky every day that we get to do this shit. It’s literally a dream come true and it’s not an easy feat either, we’ve really worked hard and we really pay out the arse for it as well, for this kind of wicked lifestyle. But it’s everything I have ever wanted and when I get to 50 and look back on my life, this is going to be like that golden era where I did what the f..k I wanted and yeah man, it’s a wicked, wicked ride. I’m really enjoying it.

What’s coming up after Homelanz?
We’ve got Big Chill [festival] in the UK which will be incredible and I can’t wait for that! We’re also playing in London at Yoyo bar and we’ve also got this amazing support slot for Erykah Badu in Berlin this weekend which is very exciting.

Quickfire with Ladi6

Favourite Ladi6 song: Jazmine DL.

Favourite band: The Roots.

Favourite song: Toss up between a Donny Hathaway or Stevie Wonder song, oh man, it’s just too hard to choose.
