Jim Carrey weighs in on the assault

According to Jim Carrey, Will Smith would have been facing a lawsuit right after the assault. Mind you, Chris Rock didn’t seek to take any action against Will after the attack.

At the Oscars afterparty, many celebrities sought to give their opinion on the matter. Frankly, many were very surprised at the way Chris Rock handled the situation. As he just continued on with the show.

As reported by The West Australian, Jim Carrey would have sued Will Smith for 200 million following the attack on him. He described the assault as “sickening”. He shared he was not impressed by the academy giving him a standing ovation. Right after he received his award nearly 40 minutes after.

Choosing violence is never the answer

Jim Carrey continued to say to CBS Morning that the assault will last forever and explained that there were many ways that could have gone down. Violence not being one of those methods.

“That insult is gonna last a very long time. If you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter (that’s fine). But you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.”
