Stafford Brothers named Aussie dance music supremo’s.
Australian dance music website inthemix.com.au has announced the winners for their 2011 awards. The poll vote lets readers choose their favourite DJ’s, live acts and clubs across the country. It popularity has given the winners a nice little addition to their CV’s and uncovered the best dance nights across Australia.
Taking out the gold this year were Brisbane duo the Stafford Brothers (pictured). Brothers in real life they have been a mainstay on the national dance music circuit for years and can be found playing at clubs, festivals and anywhere in between. Currently on tour in the US the duo edged out Tydi and 2010 winners, the Aston Shuffle who rounded off the top three spots.
UK based Pendulum won the best live act which is no real surprise as they have been playing the main stages of most European, Australian and UK festivals the past year including Glastonbury and Reading festival.

Remember Legacy badges? The little flame shaped badges have been used to raise money for Australia’s returned servicemen and women since 1942. They entered the digital music age this year with the release of the Legacy badge music player.
Shaped like the iconic badges the music players contain five songs with the music donated by the artists who include Art Vs Science and the popular reworking of Sydney hip-hop group the Herd of ‘I was only 19.’ The song originally by Redgum tells the story of a young serviceman’s time in Vietnam and is a haunting account of young men shipped overseas to war.
For those of us in the UK there is also a digital version with the music available for download on the Legacy website. Good music and a good cause, you can’t go wrong.
Aussies hitting the UK this autumn
It’s the time of year, summer is closing, the festivals have finished and any warm sun is fading faster than your one week tan you picked up in the Greek Islands.
Before you go digging out your winter coat and begin questioning why you lived in this sun-starved country, fear not; Australian music is here to save the day! As the days get shorter and the nights colder the appeal of the hot, cramped, sticky-floored gig venue offers welcome refuge from the outside chill.
And over the next few months Australian bands and musicians are going to be hitting London and the rest of the UK to give us all some much needed comfort sounds. There’s so many we can’t list them all but here’s a bit of what you can catch over the next few months — Cut Copy, Jezabels, PNAU, Cloud Control, Gotye and Architecture in Helsinki to name a few.
