Four myths about exercise clothes

People often get confused about what to wear while exercising. This is not only because they are unaware, but also due to the popularity of gym apparel myths in the community. Those who are under common misconceptions spread false myths which go viral and confuse people. Therefore, it is important to be aware of these rumours in order to avoid them.

Cotton is the best material

Cotton is not the only material you can find in the market when searching for sports wear. Wearing cotton is not much of an issue, but wearing all cotton can get uncomfortable since it will reduce the speed of sweat absorption. This can make you feel heavier during intense workouts and can also result in various sicknesses such as skin irritation. It is best to wear synthetic fabric materials such as Coolmax or Supplex to keep everything in check.

Buy dark colours to look slimmer

There is no need to make yourself ‘look’ slimmer since the true purpose of exercising is to reduce it to a visible extent. The colour of your clothes depends on when and where you exercise, not how you look. For instance, if you cycle or jog in the evening, it is best not to wear dark colours. You must wear light colours or at least reflective ones to be visible. Therefore, never purchase, red, orange or any other dark coloured clothing without first fixing your exercise schedule and venue since they affect it to a great extent.

Loose clothes are the best

Well, not necessarily. The type of clothing you wear depends mainly on the type of exercise that you do, not in your size. Those who are interested in activities such as walking, jogging or even cycling must wear tight shorts since they are more comfortable and fail-safe. Yoga pants will be more appropriate for those who engage in weight training and yoga sessions. Avoid wearing baggy trousers and sweats when using gym machines since they can get caught and damage the property or worse, injure yourself. For instance, flare-legged pants must never be worn when visiting the gym.

Any good quality sneaker is acceptable

Unless you do not mind walking around with blisters, never forget to look for specialized footwear. What you need might be different from what someone else requires since footwear can change from person to another depending on their size and comfort levels. So, do not pick just any sneaker in the market. Look for walking or exercising shoes which are customized for the purpose. This will definitely reduce the likelihood of getting injured.

Now that you know what is fact and fiction, you can make the right clothing choices. You can save a great deal of money by avoiding these myths and also ensure a higher level of safety.
