Celebrating Melbourne Cup Day in style

In the Aussie racing world, November is the month of celebrations. And rightly so as jockeys line up for a series of the biggest racing events that Australia has to offer.

The pinnacle of these races being the Melbourne Cup; the race that stops the nation. Any true blue Aussie will embrace the Melbourne Cup with the celebrations that you will only find in Australia. Whether it is at the track, down the pub or along the bar strip; there will be something for everybody on the day.

Melbourne Cup day brings out the best in Australian style. In a way, it is kind of a milestone that leads into the Australian summer. If you want to see ladies dazzling in the latest designer trends, then trackside is the place to be. Below we reveal the ways to celebrate Cup day in style.

Ladies, start off by being drop dead gorgeous!

For any Australian lady that decides to take part in the day, it is your time to shine, and you will shine bright like a diamond. On Melbourne Cup day, expect to see hundreds (if not thousands) of ladies glamming it up in their designer frocks, hats and shoes to wow over their companions and fellow Melbourne Cup racing attendees. Their amazing outfits may see them getting a noticeable feature at the track and perhaps on television. Not a bad way to start the day.

Enjoy the live entertainment

Don’t have any fear of feeling bored while you are at the track waiting for the main event. The Melbourne Cup is an all-day affair with live entertainment acts playing throughout the day. Be it a one-man show, DJs on the decks or a full band ensemble, there will be something to keep the vibes and energy in the air.

Don’t be afraid of the camera

You’ve dressed to impress and you will be attending the event to have fun, while making a statement. Cameras will be everywhere. From your smartphone to the professionals cruising the ground with their professional SLRs and photo booths. Capture the moments from the day and keep them as a memory for the long term.

Take a punt!

It’s a day at the races. It would be sacrilege to go to the races and not take at least one punt. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, should be: can you beat the bookies?’ You don’t have to wager a large amount on it, but you can have fun and see if you can come out profitable on the other side.

Aim to pick a winning horse or to get a trifecta that may pay out enough for you to shout your friends a few more drinks. If you win, everybody wins. If not, you gave it a go and you experienced a bit of the fun that the day has to offer.

Strut your stuff trackside!

This isn’t just for the ladies, but for the eligible bachelors out there. There will be plenty of people to network with and new people to meet. Don’t leave it all for show. Put yourself out there and have a bit of fun with people, both old and new. Everyone is there for the same reasons that you are. So strut!

Banter

You can easily get something going amongst your friends and social peers. Who will pick the winning horse? Who will team up with who for the winning combination? Give them rewards such as drinks. Give them punishments such as dares. It’s what we do in Australia, so get amongst it!

Keep the celebrations going!

Why let the celebrations finish once the races have finished? Let the fun momentum continue to carry you through until the drinks stop flowing and your sixth sense begins to tell you that it is time to calm down. This event only happens once a year, so why not make the most of it?

The Spring Racing Carnival is iconic in Australia. You have the opportunity to make the day as enjoyable and memorable as you wish. So don’t be afraid to have a little fun. Get out there and make the most of it.
