Australia from space: stunning ‘Earth art’ photos taken by astronaut

Astronaut Scott Kelly has a unique view of Australia. Perched some 400 kilometres straight up in the air, zipping around Earth at about 7.66 kilometres per second, his home since March has been the International Space Station.

During down time on his one year mission, Kelly has taken to snapping what he sees beneath his feet, playing around with the colours and contrast a little, and posting the results to Twitter.

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly is on a one year mission aboard the ISS.

Kelly’s breathtaking and often bizarre images, which he and NASA like to call ‘Earth art’, offer a reminder of the drama and beauty of our wonderful world.

Below are a series of amazing photographs Kelly took of Australia.
