WOLFMOTHER frontman Andrew Stockdale has been fined over a drunken sit-in at a Brisbane club that saw him thrown in the slammer.
The singer was not in court on Friday but his lawyer entered guilty pleas to three charges including being drunk and disorderly at a West End night club last weekend.
Police prosecutors told the Brisbane Magistrates Court Stockdale was extremely drunk and having trouble speaking when bar staff refused to serve him any more drinks on 17 July.
But he wouldn’t take no for an answer, and tried to get his mates to buy his drinks. At one point he leapt onto the club’s stage and tried to sing a song.
He was ordered to leave about 11pm (AEST) but Stockdale refused to go and staged what prosecutors called a passive sit-in on the floor of the club.
Staff eventually called police, who hauled him to his feet and took him to the watchhouse.
Stockdale’s lawyer Noel Barbi said his client admitted the charges of failing to leave a licensed premises, being drunk and disorderly and of having to be removed by police.
Mr Barbi told the court the singer had simply had too much to drink.
Magistrate Noel Nunan said that was abundantly clear.
Mr Nunan said he happened to be reading a book at the moment called the Philosophy of the Wolf, which quotes German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche as saying: “If you have trouble controlling yourself, you’ll soon find someone else who will.”
“That’s what’s happened here,” Mr Nunan said.
Stockdale escaped having a conviction recorded and was fined $350.
