Part of the excitement of owning a house is the freedom you have in order to change it to suit the preferences and needs of your family. As a matter of fact, these upgrades and improvements are some of the things that make a house a home.

If you don’t have enough DIY experience, altering anything in the house can be intimidating. By beginning with simple projects, such as the following, you can build confidence and, at the same time, make your house enjoyable and comfortable to live in:

  • Refresh or Replace the Hardware

The best DIY projects for beginners are those that have a great impact. Swapping out the door hardware and cabinet fits this bill.

Consider walking around the house and determining the hardware that can use an upgrade or simply doesn’t match your asthetic. Don’t be perplexed to find a few styles and designs ready for swapping.

All you require for this project is a free afternoon and a screwdriver. If you have plans to replace drawer pulls, remember to measure the distance between screws to ensure the new pulls fit.

  • Refinish the Countertop

If the kitchen countertop requires a makeover and you don’t want to spend a lot of money to have it replaced, be sure learn to how to use and remove epoxy resin. Since epoxy resin is heat-resistant and durable, it will be able to stand up to the rigor of the kitchen surroundings.

It is also glossy, non-toxic, food-safe, and simple to maintain. You may use different finishing techniques and colors to create your desired effect. This may include marble and other stone looks.

  • Replace Torn Window Screens

Whether from simple wear and tear, a part of over-eager paws, or a fallen branch, sooner or later your window screens will need to be repaired. It is very possible to patch small tears. For larger rips though, you might have to replace the entire window screen.

This is a perfect DIY project to keep insects away from your home and make screen doors or windows more attractive.

Removing window screens can also help you familiarize yourself with the mechanics of windows. Plus, this comes in handy when it is time to do regular maintenance on your windows.

  • Do a Paint Job

You may alter the whole aesthetic of a home with some brush strokes and create a striking feature wall while at it. For a good paint job experience, expect to spend about 85% of your time setting up and preparing, and another 15% doing the task. Choose durable and high-quality paint, and then invest in a good brush and roller.

Some walls may require a layer of primer, whereas others can be painted right away. When prepping, ensure you use a filler in order to fill any holes or cracks, and then sand them down before you start painting

. Remember to lay dust sheets in order to avoid paint splashes on floors or furniture, and use masking tape so you can maintain cleaner lines, if necessary.

  • Improve the Entryway

The interior entryway is among the most used spaces in a house. Though it is also under-appreciated as far as design is concerned.

Get the most out of this project with simple upgrades, like adding new rugs to improve the style/comfort of the space or installing hooks and a deck for a DIY mudroom.

Consider looking for a piece of furniture, which offers both function and fashion. This should mirror the aesthetic of the entire part of your home.

  • Brighten up the Bathroom with Vanity Lights

People seldom give much of  thought to bathroom lighting. But considering how much time you spend in it each day, you should.

Simply upgrading some lighting fixtures in a bathroom can greatly impact visitors and your family. It is advisable to use fixtures which use LED lighting bulbs, as new designs save energy, brighten up the mood, and replace bulbs.

The Bottom Line!

Updating a home into your own sanctuary is a very rewarding process. Although there are times when using experts for home improvement projects is necessary, smaller DIY renovations can still be a viable option.

DIY home improvement projects don’t always save a lot of cash, but they can give you a lot of satisfaction of completing them yourself. Know your skills and your limits, especially when the project involves electricity or power tools.
