Emilia Clarke opens up about aneurysms and brain surgery

Emilia Clarke is currently lucky to be able to speak as she opened up about losing a very large part of her brain due to two aneurysms.

Emilia Clarke got her first aneurysm back in 2011 while filming Game of Thrones. In her interview with BBC, the actress opened up about her recovery. 

The actress details her experience with aneurysms

Right now, Emilia Clarke shared that she is lucky to be able to speak. After she had suffered two aneurysms in 2011 and 2013 respectively. During these times, the actress required an extensive healing period. 

To date, Emilia Clarke shared that she has quite a large chunk of her brain that is lost as a result of her aneurysms. 

“The amount of my brain that is no longer usable — it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions,”

As shared by Variety, Emilia Clarke experienced these aneurysms while she was filming Game of Thrones. She revealed that the show helped her through the difficult times.

The actress shared that she frequently recited the lines of her role. So that she can remain conscious while enduring the aneurysms that shaped her life. However, Emilia Clarke revealed that this has not affected her normal day-to-day life. 

 “It was incredibly helpful to have ‘Game of Thrones’ sweep me up and give me that purpose.”

Thus far, Emilia shared that she has accepted that this is part of her life now and that she has embraced her illness till today. 

“I thought, ‘Well, this is who you are. This is the brain that you have.’ So there’s no point in continually wracking your brains about what might not be there,”

Right now, Emilia is not affected in the slightest by the change in her brain. While a chunk of it is not useful the actress is still able to function normally and is still able to remember things as she did previously.
