Peter Gutwein has decided to retire from politics as he finds that he cannot give any more to the community than he already has. It has been 20 years that Peter has been of service.

Peter Gutwein leaves politics after 20 years

According to ABC News, Peter Gutwein has opened up about being sexually abused as a child for which he gained much praise from other sexual abuse victims.

His resignation comes as a shock to many but has received much support from everyone in parliament as well as the community. One of those who praised Peter Gutwein is Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison shared that Peter did not set a foot wrong in the Covid-19 response. Tasmania is also one of the first states to close their border and helped other states to follow suit.

Peter intends to spend more time with his family

As reported by The Guardian, Peter Gutwein feels that he has nothing left in the tank. He has thus decided to focus his attention on his family as he has spent 20 years focussing on the community.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve as Tasmania’s 46th premier. However, the time is now right for me to move on.”

To date, Peter Gutwein will remain Premier until the Liberal Party elects a new Premier. They are expected to elect one in his place by the end of this week. This comes after Peter was elected as Premier of Tasmania in 2020 following Will Hodgman’s resignation.

Until today, Gutwein has remained an advocate for climate change as well as child sexual abuse survivors. Just last month, Peter shocked the community when he shared that he too was a survivor of sexual abuse.
