Lismore Flood worsens in NSW as hundreds of homes are inundated

Lismore flood or flash flooding has gotten considerably worse. Residents of Lismore have been warned about the intensity of the rainfall by midnight on Sunday but it seems the warning came a bit late.

Countless boats make rounds in the Lismore flood

The flooding currently taking place in Lismore is the worst the city has experienced so far. Countless individuals are also helping out SES by saving their neighbors by boat. One man alone saved 12 people with his boat.

In previous reports, the BoM has warned of flashing flooding taking place in NSW. But the reading thereof was actually worse than initially thought out to be. As a result, some individuals have not taken this warning seriously and remained within their homes. The Lismore flood has worsened as a result.

Presently, there are many people stranded on the roofs of their homes, waiting to be saved. Some have since been seen to be standing on furniture in their homes. The water is estimated to be 4 feet high as reported by The Guardian.

Thus far, two-story buildings have been inundated with the water levels seen to be rising to the top of the buildings. In the wake of the flooding, some individuals expressed that the flooding happened so quickly and was not able to save anything from their homes. The Lismore flood hasn’t taken any lives so far.

One man missing since Sunday

Right now, there aren’t any reports on the loss of life as many people are still being rescued at this time. However, the police did come across one man yelling for help. But when they attempted to save him they couldn’t locate him. They surmise that he might have been washed down a drain.

While the Lismore flood is continuing to worsen, many houses have been inundated with water as far as the whole of their homes. One man has lost his whole home and made it a point to help others in need.

“I guess you have to stop somewhere but the rescuing thing is addictive because every time you go down a street and get one person you see five others,”

Lismore resident Ricketts
