Does Adam Scott have another major win in him?

Former world number one Adam Scott goes into the 2021/2022 golf season looking to add to his sole Major Championship success, which came in the 2013 US Masters.

The Australian is now 42nd in the world rankings, but he proved last season that he was capable of being competitive on the PGA Tour as he was narrowly denied victory in the 2021 Wyndham Championship. He was beaten in a playoff in that tournament, which was won by Kevin Kisner.

Scott’s last competition win came in the 2020 Genesis Invitational. He was successful by two strokes with a score of -11, his 14th victory on the PGA Tour and his 31st career success. If Scott could pick one tournament to win this season, it will be any of the four Majors. He’s likely to be among the golf betting tips for the Masters and is currently priced at 60/1 odds, given his record at Augusta. Not only is he a Green Jacket holder, but he has also finished inside the top ten on five occasions.

Jack Nicklaus is the oldest Masters winner in history, having prevailed at the age of 46 in 1968. At 41, Scott would be amongst the oldest to prevail, but he only needs to look at what Tiger Woods achieved in 2019 to see what is possible.

Before he travels to Georgia, Scott is likely to feature in the big tournaments in Australia. He is a former winner of the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open, and Talisker Masters. Scott will be one of the biggest names in the field for those events in 2021.

Open Championship Success Would Be Fully Deserved

The event where Scott has played consistently well, however, failed to win, is the Open Championship. Scott has finished in the top five over three consecutive years running between 2012 and 2014. The tough conditions of links golf have never fazed the man from Adelaide.

In 2012, it looked as though the Aussie was going to break his maiden in the big four tournaments. He held a four-shot lead with four holes to play on the final day of the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club. Yet unfortunately for Scott, he fell apart in those holes, losing out to Ernie Els by one shot.

Scott cannot be ruled out at future Open Championships as he’s still a fine player of links golf: in 2022, the British major is held at St Andrew’s, the home of golf. It’s the 150th anniversary of the world’s oldest Major so it would a monumental tournament to win.

The last time the Open was at St Andrew’s was in 2015 and Scott was in contention throughout. A final round of 71 was enough for him to finish in a tie for tenth place in the event, which was eventually won by Louis Oosthuizen following a three-way play-off. Scott is a player who deserves more than one Major win when he retires. One thing’s for certain: Australian fans will be cheering him on in 2022 as he looks to prove his best days aren’t behind him.
