A male tourist in his 50s has tragically died after being the victim of a deadly shark attack while surfing at Tuncurry beach just off the NSW coast at around 11am on Tuesday.

MAN “CALLED OUT” TO ALERT FELLOW SURFERS AS THE SHARK ATTACKED

As reported by 9News, the man was bitten in the leg while surfing with three friends by what is suspected to be a Great white shark.

Police Superintendent Christopher Schilt said that as the attack was occurring the man caught a glimpse of the shark and, “called out to try and warn the others.”

A FATAL ATTACK: “HORRIFIC INJURIES”

Fellow surfers transported the man back to shore but he went into cardiac arrest after a large amount of blood loss.

Eyewitness Michael Guest said that, “They lifted him up. They were probably in about waist-deep water, and he had horrific injuries.”

A man on the beach, who was a retired paramedic, performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived at the scene.

NSW ambulance tweeted that, “Despite the best efforts of paramedics and bystanders at the scene, the man could not be resuscitated.”
