And the winner of this year’s Super Bowl is… Australia!
We all know the best thing about America’s annual sporting high point is actually the adverts. Well, this year some 110 million NFL fans across the good-ole-U-S-of-A were treated to this faux reboot of the Aussie movie classic, Crocodile Dundee.
The fake trailer (above) casts US actor Danny McBride as the son of fabled Crocateer, Mick, travelling the length and breadth of Australia, led by famous Aussies Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Margot Robbie and Hugh Jackman in cameos. Along the way he learns that Down Under actually has some pretty fantastic wine and fine dining to go with its croc hunting (well, spotting), kangaroo petting and buffalo hypnotising.
A certain Mr Mick ‘Crocodile’ Dundee himself even makes an appearance.
The advert, itself reportedly costing more than $10 million to air with the Super Bowl, launches a new $36 million marketing campaign to lure Americans Down Under. Strewth!
Apart from becoming the major talking point around the Super Bowl (in which the Philadelphia Eagles pipped the New England Patriots, in case you care), the advert has already heralded a #BringBackDundee Twitter campaign to get a genuine reboot Crocodile Dundee film up on the screen.
