Anthony Pratt is the wealthiest person in Australia, according to the Financial Review’s 2017 rich list.

The packaging and recycling magnate from Melbourne is worth a cool $12.6 billion, knocking property king Harry Triguboff off top perch with his paltry fortune of just $11.45 billion.

Australia’s richest woman, Gina Rinehart, comes in this year at number three with her $10.41 billion.

According to the Australian Financial Review (AFR), the top 10 richest people in Australia have a combined net worth of $77.16 billion. To put that into perspective, it equates to 4.3% of Australia’s entire annual GDP.

The net worth of everyone on the 200 strong Australian rich list, which this year boasts a record 60 billionaires, is $233.1 billion.

Gina Rinehart is the only woman in the top 10. The next richest woman in Australia is her daughter with a measly $2.74 billion.

The youngest person on the AFR Australian Rich List 2017 is 33-year-old foreign exchange broker Owen Kerr who chips in with $342 million to scrape through at 200th.

Pratt fact: In 2016, the Australian Taxation Office revealed that despite more than $2.5 billion in revenue in 2013-14, Pratt Consolidated Holdings had not paid any taxes. In response, Pratt said, “All I can say is that we abide by all the laws, as any good ethical company does.”

Pratt in the USA: Earlier this month, Anthony Pratt received a standing ovation from US President Donald Trump at an event in New York City marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, for his pledged investment of USD$2 billion (AUD$2.7 billion) in the US.
