Johnny Depp has poked fun at the video apology he and wife Amber Heard filmed ahead of them facing an Australian judge for smuggling their two dogs into the country.
Speaking at a press conference in London on Sunday for new film Alice Through the Looking Glass, Depp stuck his tongue firmly into his cheek and set journalists tails wagging with his deadpan sarcasm.
“I really would like to apologise for not smuggling my dogs into England, because it would have been a bad thing to do,” he said.
“Because the Australians, though chipper, and um,” he mumbles before his fellow cast members and producer Tim Burton chime in.
“I tried to kill ’em after Australia,” he then jokes.
While taken seriously in Australia (just ask Barnaby Joyce), the controversy over Depp’s and Heard’s pooches, Pistol and Boo, and the couple’s awkward apology video has been comedy gold for overseas purveyors of parody.
