Style at the Oscars has come a long way. Check out all the winning dresses. Is what's worn on the red carpet a hint to who's an Academy Award winner?

For actresses choosing the perfect dress is almost as important as the nomination itself. That’s why Mediarun Digital decided to draw up an illustration that features every dress every winning best actress winner has worn since 1929.

On their website the company states that it is interesting to see how style has changed over the years. “The early ceremonies were a far less extravagant occasion and fashion choices reflected that, while today’s events see luxurious flowing gowns from the world’s leading designers.”

According to The Daily Mail, the designer who has dressed the most winners is the Italian fashion house Armani with three, dressing Jessica Tandy in 1990, Jodie Foster in 1992 and Emma Thompson in 1993.

Dior has two wins under the belt with Reese Witherspoon in 2006 and Jennifer Lawrence in 2013. Yves Saint Laurent follows with Jane Fonda in 1972 and Kate Winslet in 2009. Gucci also scored two wins with Helen Hunt in 1999 and our very own South African born actress, Charlize Theron in 2004.

Jean Paul Gaultier is also ranked with two wins – dressing Oscar winners Nicole Kidman in 2003 and Marion Cotillard in 2008.

This year the nominees for best actress in a leading role are: Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlotte Rampling and Saoirse Ronan.
