Australia’s money has been given a fabulous facelift. Instead of faces from the olden days that no-one recognises, now our new ‘Straya Cash’ features the likes of Kath ‘n’ Kim, Warnie, John Farnham, Agro and meat pies. Heaps better!
Artist Arron Tyler has taken it upon himself to update all the Aussie banknotes with contemporary cultural icons that we can all relate to. Gone are Banjo Paterson, Dame Nellie Melba and Sir Henry Parkes, in are Steve Irwin, Dame Edna, Kylie, Corey the party animal, Alf from Home & Away, and Karl Stefanovic.
Also incorporated into the designs are everyday Aussie essentials such as a BBQ, thongs, Vegemite, lamingtons and beer, as well as few dangerous nasties like the redback spider and Speedos.
“Those faces were relevant once, but they don’t strike a chord with modern Australia. The time is right for a facelift,” Tyler says of his newly minted bucks on his website.
“The time is right for STRAYA CASH. I decided to redesign Australia’s banknotes, featuring instantly recognisable personalities and cultural icons that present-day Australians love.”

Change it to Dollarydoos, mate!
Tyler’s designs come hot on the heels of The Simpsons inspired Change.org petition to have Australia’s currency renamed ‘Dollarydoos’. Yes, this is for real…
“Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling. That’s why we need something to stimulate the Australian economy and that something is changing the name of the Australian currency to ‘Dollarydoos’,” states the petition declaration by Thomas Probst.
“This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency.
“If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible. So please sign this petition to get our nation’s leaders to finally act on this important issue.”
At the time of writing, Probst’s petition needed just a further 3,622 signatures to reach its target of 50,000.
