The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) works to promote competition for the benefit of consumers, both within and outside the UK. We came into being in April 2014 and are committed to becoming one of the leading competition authorities in the world. Successful litigation is a key part of our task.
In our first 18 months, we have litigated in the Competition Appeal Tribunal, the High Court, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court and the ECJ. Our litigators conduct our litigation, working with the CMA’s standing counsel, as well as providing advice on litigation risk to decision makers across the CMA.
If you’re an experienced litigation lawyer, we can therefore offer you a tantalising combination: varied, challenging and thought-provoking work in a city with equally varied, exciting lifestyle opportunities. You will need solid experience in the Competition Appeal Tribunal and/or High Court or their equivalent, the ability to work under pressure, strong communication and analytical skills, flexibility and a willingness to work across the organisation.
We need good team workers who will help to help build the CMA’s Litigation Unit and who will contribute to the work of CMA Legal across the board. If you don’t already have a good knowledge of public competition law and litigation you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to pick it up quickly. You will join a hard working but friendly and supportive team.

Candidates who do not hold UK fully qualified lawyer status entitling them to practise in England and Wales must show a preparedness to sit and pass the QLTT on appointment (funding will be provided by the CMA) though this requirement may be varied for lawyers applying for a secondment or for a two-year fixed term contract.
