Zugubal Dancers - Origins Festival

Following the success of previous Origins Festivals, Border Crossings is returning to London this year with a full programme for its Origins Festival of First Nations 2015 with tickets now on sale through all venues.

From 9th to 25th June 2015, Border Crossings will present a mix of inspiring theatre, live performances, talks, lectures and films across 12 different London venues including the British Museum, Rich Mix Arts Centre and the Southbank Centre.

Highlights of the diverse programme include the spectacle of Mexico’s famous birdmen, the Voladores de Papantla, who will perform their awe-inspiring, UNESCO honoured ceremony in Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance venue; the shamanic Guatemalan Mayan Grupo Sotz’il with an extraordinary performance made in response to the dawning of a new age in the Mayan calendar, Oxlajuj B’aqtun; Aboriginal Australian ILBIJERRI Theatre Company’s powerful theatrical documentary, Beautiful One Day; a special one-off lecture by renowned Native American environmentalist and two-time Green candidate for the Vice Presidency of the US, Winona LaDuke; and the UK premiere of a new piece of music theatre from the Norwegian Arctic at Rich Mix, Just Another Sámi.

The Tracker
Rolf de Heer’s and David Gulpilil’s ‘The Tracker’ will be screening at the Hackney Picturehouse on 12 June.

To coincide with the British Museum putting its Indigenous Australian treasures on display, the venue will host the ancient music of the Torres Straight Islands’ Zugubal Dancers and the festival’s cinema highlights include showcasing the films made by Rolf de Heer and David Gulpilil – a unique partnership recently acclaimed at Cannes Film Festival – including The Tracker.

Also, the Rebecca Hossack Gallery is hosting Tracks: Land and Landscape in Aboriginal Art as part of the festival.

Origins Festival of First Nations 2015 runs from 9 to 25 June at various venues in London. For full details and programme of events, go to OriginsFestival.BorderCrossings.org.uk
