An Australian man has been found dead in a hotel room in Bali, Indonesia.
Staff at a hotel in Seminyak found the as yet unnamed 42-year-old lying face down on the bed in his room after he failed to check out.
Dr Ida Bagus Putu Alit, a forensic doctor who attended the scene, said while there were no signs of trauma there were signs of possible asphyxia, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
A full autopsy would be needed to determine the cause of death, the doctor said.
Staff at a Bali medical facility say they believe the Australian died up to 24 hours before they received the body on Monday night.
Police have said the Australian man was last seen by the hotel’s staff when another guest helped him to his room on Saturday night. He was apparently drunk, police say. They also found a number of pills in his room which were reportedly stamina enhancers, vitamins and antacids.
According to police investigator Dewa Tagel Wijasa, there was so far no sign that anyone else was in the room when the man died.
“We are yet to check the CCTV to confirm no one else entered his room. But judging from the hotel room nothing was disturbed,” he said.
