glitter bomb

Australian website ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com launched on 13 January providing “Glitter as a Service” to those wanting to send a sparkly piece of revenge. For just $9.99 one can send an envelope filled with glitter, and a note with expletives of choice, anywhere around the world.

That is before they ran out of glitter. And now the site has been put up for auction.

Hours after launching on 13 January, the website was featured on Business Insider, Gizmodo, the Huffington Post and Reddit. Ordering was suspended temporarily after the site crashed from thousands of orders around the world exceeding the company’s supply of all seven colours of glitter.

Sydney-based entrepreneur Mathew Carpenter, 22, told TechCrunch that he’s “thrilled” his little side project went viral.

Carpenter explained that the glitter-filled Christmas and birthday cards from his relatives inspired him to start the service. “I hated it, and wanted the rest of the world to feel my pain,” he said.

The website promises to send “the herpes of the craft world” to any where in the world.

“We’ll send them so much glitter in an envelope that they’ll be finding that shit everywhere for weeks,” the site declares. “Hint: the glitter will be mixed in with the note, thus increasing maximum spillage.”

— Cassie Young (@CassandraYoung) January 14, 2015

According to TechCrunch, the service proved so popular (reportedly over 2,200 orders in just a few hours) that Carpenter was forced to take the online booking form down and has been left to fulfill the paid orders alone – that’s a lot of envelopes to stuff with glitter.

So now  ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com has been put up for auction, with current bidding on Flippa in excess of $61,000.
