An Adelaide man was spotted motoring through a shopping centre car park on 5 January on his novelty motor vehicle – an Esky.
Despite being stopped by a police officer, spoken to and warned that it is not legal for his vehicle to be driven on the roads, the offender was later seen again hooning on his hotrod cooler box.
The motorised Esky was impounded and the man was reported for driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle and for driving unlicensed. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Police have said that motorised Eskies are novelty vehicles that cannot be registered legally in South Australia or driven on the state’s road.
Senior Sergeant Nils Uellendahl was reported by the ABC as saying: “Police would like to remind the public that these novelty motor vehicles which includes the likes of pit bikes, motorised Eskies and the likes cannot be registered and therefore cannot be legally driven or ridden on the road.”
“They are for private property novelty use only and can be a danger to the drivers and other road users.”
