In incredible scenes, police have stormed the café at the centre of the Sydney siege, ending the hostage crisis.
Australian news networks were televising live from the scene early on Tuesday morning when at about 2:14 local time heavily armed police could be seen running toward the front door of the Lindt café.
A flurry of what sounded like gunshots and small explosions could be heard for about 20 seconds as apparently several armed personnel entered the building. Moments later, people who appeared to be injured could be seen being carried from the building by police.
Soon after, ambulances and paramedics arrived at the scene to treat the injured and ferry them to nearby hospitals. It is unknown at this stage the extent of any injuries or if there have been any fatalities.
It is being reported that SAS commandos may have been involved in the operation.
