A stockpile of liquid explosives and hand drawn ‘terror maps’, depicting the layout of busy Sydney and Newcastle train stations, were discovered in a house in Brisbane following a raid by authorities.
Police have said they think the previous resident of the home in the suburb of Pullenvale was planning terror attacks at both locations. The former resident is now believed to be in New South Wales.
AFP detectives sealed off the house as they cleared more than 50kgs of chemicals, which could be used to manufacture bombs, from the residence last week.
Nine Network reported that of the three types of chemicals discovered, one was the same ingredient used in the terror attacks in London in 2005 and that police had removed and disposed of the explosives.
Police may have the residence’s walls and floor scanned with specialist x-ray equipment to establish if anything else is hidden in the house.
The tenant who deserted the property after falling behind in his rent is said to be Daniel Fing who posed as a navy diver when he rented the property through an estate agent. Fing has since been arrested on unrelated charges in NSW where he is to appear in court later this month.
NSW police raided two homes near Newcastle in relation to the Brisbane house discoveries; the Fing family home on Tuesday night and the home of a former partner on Wednesday morning.
