You are invited to the Wimbledon Hawks Ladies Day

Come and help us paint this AFL London nest pink!

AFL London ladies Day - 2

The Wimbledon Hawks Ladies Day is fast becoming one of the highlights of the summer.

The event is already one of the key dates on the AFL London calendar. This year London’s favourite social footy team are stepping it up a notch to raise money for a very deserving cause and they need your help.

We have teamed up with Pink Ribbon Day to Paint the Nest Pink and raise some money for a charity that supports so many people.

Picture this: the sun is shining, the smell of the BBQ is floating on the air, cocktail glasses are chinking, girls are giggling, the latest summer hits are pumping out to a crowd dressed from head to toe in Pink and over the top of it all the cries of “Ball!” from the footy field.

Sound like a good day out?

Well, over the past five years the reputation of The Wimbledon Hawks Ladies Day has been growing and growing and the crowds are flocking to Motspur Park to join in the festivities. Every year the number of fun loving expats and locals coming to enjoy a day at the footy ‘London style’ is getting bigger, turning this event into one that you don’t want to miss.

There have been many relationships formed at these events and this year we celebrate the first Ladies Day wedding and baby.

On the 21st of June the Hawks Nest will have a jam-packed day full of activities and entertainment. Starting with a kid’s footy clinic to show off our great game and teach some skills to children aged five up to fifteen years who are more used to the round ball.

Following that will be the Wimbledon Hawks Social side taking on the London Swans 3rds in a match that will whet your appetite for the main event.

Next on the field will be the girls. It wouldn’t be Ladies Day without a ladies game, so a combined London team will take on The Tyne Tee Tigers, a women’s team from Newcastle, in what is expected to be a great contest. Make sure you get behind the home team!

The main event sees the Wimbledon Hawks versus the London Swans in the AFL London Premier League; a game that always delivers and is worthy of a massive crowd. Off the field, these two teams are the best of mates but once the siren sounds, it’s on like Donkey Kong and the result is usually very close. There is silverware up for grabs too with the Pink Ribbon Trophy awarded to the winning team.

While the footy takes center stage on the pitch, off the pitch there is plenty going on to create the party of the summer. The Hawk’s own back pocket rocket, DJ Thick Bleach will be spinning the summer anthems all day from the DJ booth, while our friends at Busabout have some amazing travel prizes that are up for grabs in the raffle. The fun and games continue with girl’s handball and longest kick competitions and prizes for best dressed in pink.

The gourmet BBQ will be running hot all day and the Hawks bar serving ice-cold beers, ciders, jugs of Pims and cocktails. What more could you want?

After the goal posts are packed away the highlight of every AFL London game kicks off, The Boat Race, where five players from each team line up face to face and in turn skull a pint of Fosters in a race. The winners take the applause and bragging rights into the next year. This being Ladies Day means the guys don’t get all the fun so the Ladies Boat Race is a Ladies Day tradition, truly a site to behold.

Inspired by the AFL’s Pink Lady, we want to create a see of Pink so we are urging everyone to wear as much pink on the day and donate a gold coin to The Pink Ribbon Day charity.

So on the 21st of June bring your friends and family and get the train to Motspur Park to watch the footy, have beer in your pink stubby holder, a burger and a laugh and get involved in this London summer tradition.

Thanks heaps, from the gang at Wimbledon Hawks
