WE’RE giving you the opportunity to have your travel story published with Australian Times and win a £250 Topdeck travel voucher.

Do you harbour dreams of being the next Bill Bryson? Of packing in the 9-5, throwing on a backpack and setting off with nothing but a laptop or notebook and pen in hand?

Great travel writing can inspire and excite. It can paint a picture of a time, a place, a culture — transporting the reader far away from their everyday humdrum existence. It can be merely a funny anecdote that captures the spirit of a particular adventure, or a factual account of the best sights and sounds of an exotic city or country.  It can be written by anyone, anywhere.

Australian Times, in conjunction with Topdeck, wants to give you the opportunity to tap into your inner Paul Theroux. To put pen to paper or finger to keyboard about that recent hike across the mountains of New Zealand, that amazing paella you ate in the cobbled streets of Spain or that beautiful beach you lay on under the waving palm fronds of Tahiti.

Submit your travel article to Australian Times (subject to the terms and conditions, below). If the editor thinks our readers will enjoy your tale, it will be published on the Australian Times website. The editor will then select the best story each month and that writer will win the monthly £250 voucher to any Topdeck tour of their choice.

For your submission to be considered, it must include:

  • 600-800 words
  • 3 high resolution photos taken by you on the trip

  • Profile picture of yourself

Email your submission to: editor@australiantimes.co.uk and include ‘Great Travel Writer’ in the subject. You will be contacted by the editor should your work be selected for publication (please note; solicited features or any inclusion of third party links will not be accepted).

And that’s it! Write about any destination you have travelled to, embrace your own style and make those dreams of being a published travel writer a reality.
